If you work in business, you’ve probably had to go outside the country at some point or another. As smooth as you’d like your travels to go, it’s likely that there have been some occasions that have made you want to scream. Maybe the hotel you had a reservation at was overbooked or your flight was delayed, but in any case, these instances can get any trip off to the wrong start.
To avoid any bumps along the road in the future when going abroad for work, follow these tips from Gadling.com, AOL’s travel blog:
1) Check availability from time to time
After you’ve purchased your ticket, return to the website you bought it from and take a look at how the seats are filling up. For example, if you’re in the middle, check to see if any in the aisle or window are available about a week before you’re set to leave. In some instances, you may be able to upgrade for free or a very small fee.
2) Don’t fly in the day before your meeting
You may feel like saving the company you work for a bit of money by flying into the country the day before you’re supposed to give that important presentation. However, this isn’t a good idea. After all, flights may be delayed or cancelled at the last minute. As a result, you may have been left rushing frantically to your meeting or missing it altogether.
3) Know what papers you need
Let’s say your employer is going to send you to Tokyo for a couple months. Approximately 90 days before you’re set to leave, you should begin investigating what paperwork you’ll need to have while abroad. Certain cities require travelers to have a work visa while they’re there and this type of documentation usually takes a while to obtain.
