Fall is in the air and along with beautiful foliage, there's also one holiday that is likely to put a smile on anyone's face, Halloween. Along with jack-o-lanterns and trick-or-treating, it's also an excuse to enjoy all things scary.
If you love Halloween and are going to be traveling this October, then consider staying in the following hotels, which have been voted some of the spookiest in the United States by The Huffington Post:
1) The Biltmore Hotel – Coral Gables, Florida
This five-star hotel may look beautiful from the outside, but it's got a dark past. Famous gangster Thomas "Fatty" Walsh was shot and killed on the 13th floor during a party hosted for the rich and famous. This event closed the Biltmore until it was reopened during World War II as a hospital for wounded servicemen. It was shut down a second time and didn't open its doors again until the 1980s. Since then, guests have reported hearing odd noises and being inexplicably let off at the 13th floor without having pushed the button.
2) Bourbon Orleans Hotel – New Orleans, Louisiana
This hotel was originally built in the late 1800s as an all girls school, hospital and orphanage. People who have stayed here have reported being woken up at night to sounds of female kids and adults walking through the hotel, as well as a child who likes to roll a ball through the hallway.
3) The Marshall House – Savannah, Georgia
The Marshall House is over 160 years old, and over the years has experienced some very spooky events. Not only was it used as a medical ward during the Civil War, but it was also home to those who were suffering from yellow fever during the epidemics that plagued the United States. Guests have said that they've felt frigid hands around their wrists as those doctors were taking their pulse or temperature.
Regardless of how you feel about all things scary, these are luxurious hotels that are certainly worth staying at. When you arrive at the airport, don't trouble yourself trying to rent a car. Instead, rely on an airport transportation service like Hermes Worldwide. Their reputable chauffeurs know their way around the city you are in and will take you wherever you want to go.
